The federal district court for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) is often called the “Rocket Docket” because it consistently has the fastest trial docket of any federal court in the U.S. Due to its speedy docket, active and experienced bench, abbreviated discovery schedule, and unwillingness to extend pretrial deadlines and trial dates, the EDVA presents a challenging and high-pressure venue for even the most experienced practitioners. A strong familiarity with the court’s rules and practices, written and unwritten, is needed to avoid its many tricks and traps. Troutman Pepper’s team has significant experience litigating in the EDVA, and will be sharing their insights and analysis on practice in the EDVA here.
